Mujica, Favorite for Uruguay Elections |
By ivette
Montevideo, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) The countdown for the
Uruguayan run-off continues six days ahead of the elections,
with Broad Front (FA) candidate Jose Mujica in the lead of
the surveys.
The leftwing coalition's representative has an advantage
between eight and 10 percent, compared to the National Party
candidate Luis Alberto Lacalle, according to the results of
the polls by Factum, Equipos Mori, Cifra, and Interconsult
pollsters.
The FA and the so called "tolda blanca" will hold a run-off
to elect the head of State and the vice president for the
2010-2015 term of office.
The Uruguayan Electoral Court (CE) continues on Tuesday the
preparations for Sunday's elections, training the officials
that will work at the vote reception tables, and
distribution of vehicles donated by public authorities will
start.
Army trucks will take the ballot boxes to 6,869 enabled
circuits in the country, and they will analyze different
variants to carry out this activity, faced with
impossibility to reach the places for the voting, due to
heavy rains.
This unexpected problem has placed the CE ministers in a
tense situation and they are assessing additional measures
to transfer the materials, in case that river floods or road
blockages continue, due to weather inclemencies.
The climate phenomenon has caused floods in the country's
northern region and according to the most recent report by
the National Emergency System the number of evacuees reached
1,545 and 54 percent of them were from the northern Artigas
department.
The CE reiterated the publicity ban, starting at 00:00 hour,
local time on Friday 25, and the prohibition of selling
alcoholic beverages and public shows during the weekend. |
