OAS Nixes Obstacles to Zelaya Restitution |
Washington, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) Many Latin American
countries'' representatives to OAS said they will recognize
the Honduran elections process only if the constitutional
President, Manuel Zelaya, is reinstated.
Delegates from Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia and
Nicaragua denounced coupist ploys to break the October 30
agreements about the president's restitution, in OAS
Permanent Council meeting.
"I am afraid that the de facto regime does not act in good
faith", said the Brazilian Ambassador to OAS, Ruy Casaes.
The Tegucigalpa-San José agreement envisages the possibility
of subjecting Zelaya's restitution to the approval of
Congress, as one of the crucial points to return to
institutionalization.
Nevertheless, the Parliament continues putting the matter
off by presenting it to other authoritiesâÖ approval, while
it keeps a plenary session about power restitution
suspended.
"Unfortunately news are not as wood as we wanted in our
burst of optimism", satirized the Venezuelan representative,
Roy Cháderton.
Last week, Cháderton had urged other OAS members to not
celebrate the agreement until Zelaya were president again.
"The General Secretary should be alert and promote some
actions that stop this delay climate", considered the
Ecuadorian Ambassador, Francisco Proaño.
Those countries' representatives joined with Bolivia and
Nicaragua said they will not recognize any president voted
on November 29 elections, if it is celebrated under the de
facto regime.
The legitimate president of Honduras was kidnapped by hooded
military men and sent to Costa Rica in June 28.
After two unsuccessful attempts to return to Hondura, he
arrived to it on September 21 and is in the Brazilian
Embassy in Honduras. |
