HAVANA, Cuba, July 9 - Russian former presidential
candidate Guennadi Ziuganov asked US President Barack
Obama to lift Washington almost 50-year-old economic
blockade of Cuba and to release five Cuban
anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned
in the United States since 1998.
During a dialogue with Obama in Moscow, the Russian
capital, Ziuganov said that the blockade is an
embarrassing page in the history of the United States to
which the current administration must put an end if it
really intends to make changes.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the leader of
the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the
State Duma (lower chamber of Parliament) also urged
Obama to suspend plans to spread the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization (NATO).
He asked the US leader to renounce a useless
anti-missile defense system in East Europe.
US President Barack Obama concluded on Wednesday an
official visit to Russia, where he met with President
Dmitri Medvedev and other local leaders. |
